Parques de Sintra elected the World's Leading Conservation Company

01 Dec 2023

The trophy for "World's Leading Conservation Company" at the World Travel Awards has gone to Portugal. Parques de Sintra was honoured with the prestigious award that recognises the excellence of its work since 2013. The announcement was made this evening in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, during the official awards ceremony held at the iconic Burj Al Arab.

Present at the ceremony to represent the company responsible for monuments such as the National Palaces of Pena, Sintra and Queluz; the Palace of Monserrate; the Convent of the Capuchos; and the Moorish Castle −, Luís Calaim, director of Parques de Sintra, received the award on behalf of all the employees and thanked those who follow the company's work closely and who made a point of honouring it with their vote year after year.

For her part, Sofia Cruz, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Parques de Sintra, said: "Continuing to win the World Travel Award for 'World's Leading Conservation Company' after eleven consecutive years is only possible because all the teams at Parques de Sintra pursue excellence on a daily basis, with the utmost commitment. A successful project and the know-how gained is a lever to do better in the next project, and so on, in a spiral of improvement. This work, which has been consistently recognised both nationally and internationally, has meant that over the last ten years more than 25 million people have bought tickets to visit the cultural and natural heritage we manage. During this same period, we have made investments worth 40 million euros thanks to the virtuous circle that characterises the company's pioneering management model, centred on the heritage's ability to generate income that is then reinvested in its recovery and maintenance. These facts demonstrate that we are on the right track. In the future, we plan to invest another 30 million euros in enhancing the assets entrusted to us, always with the same rigour and capacity to innovate that has made us a world reference in our field."

For 30 years, the World Travel Awards have recognised, rewarded and celebrated excellence in all sectors of tourism, with the brand being recognised globally as a seal of quality. The awards, which are voted for by the general public and industry professionals, are one of the most prestigious honours tourism companies can receive, and the various categories in the competition receive entries from all over the world. The winners are revealed at the official awards ceremony, which is a climactic celebration of the best in international tourism.
