Dogs are welcome in the parks and monuments of Sintra

Castelo Dos Mouros Dogfriendly©PSML Jose Marques Silva

Did you know that you can discover Sintra’s heritage with your best friend?

With the exception of the Park of Pena and the Cabo da Roca Lighthouse, the parks and monuments managed by Parques de Sintra allow dogs to enter, providing a more inclusive experience that is closer to nature and enabling visitors to enjoy this heritage in the company of their pets.

To make your visit more comfortable for everyone, the sites provide drinking fountains for dogs, waste-bag dispensers and designated areas where your pet can wait safely while you visit areas where dogs are not permitted.

Before setting off, please check the access rules and other useful information, including where dogs are allowed and the location of the facilities available.

These rules help ensure the safety and well-being of animals, other visitors and the heritage itself.

At the entrance to the monuments, simply collect your dog’s free admission ticket!

Please respect the other users and comply with the following rules:

  • Always collect your dog's waste and deposit it in the available garbage bins.
  • Only one dog per person is allowed.
  • A maximum of 5 dogs may be present at each monument at any one time. If the maximum capacity has been reached, please wait for your turn to enter.
  • The use of a non-extendable leash is mandatory.
  • For safety reasons, dogs are not allowed in some areas. Please respect the signage.
  • Dogs are only allowed on the paths.
  • Do not allow your dog to disturb other visitors or animals.
  • Only dogs with microchip are allowed.
  • The access of potentially dangerous dog breeds is allowed only when the dog is accompanied by a person over 16 years old, wears a muzzle and a short leash (up to 1 meter) and its owners present the corresponding permit.
