National Palace of Sintra: Theatrical Visit

This experience transports participants to the closing period of the Portuguese monarchy through an intimate, historically informed theatrical visit to Queen Maria Pia’s Residence at the National Palace of Sintra.

Set within richly evocative rooms and carefully remusealised spaces, the visit unfolds as live theatre, with the palace itself serving as the stage for an encounter with one of the most significant figures of the Portuguese monarchy.

At the end of the visit, participants bid farewell to the Queen and continue, accompanied by her Master of Painting, through the streets of Sintra’s historic centre, in a narrative that extends beyond the palace walls. The journey concludes at Vila Roma for tea, recreating the sociable atmosphere characteristic of courtly circles.
