Visiting conditions after the storm of 19-20 March 2025

Temporal Pena

Following the extreme weather conditions experienced in the Greater Lisbon region on 19 and 20 March, the parks and monuments located in the Sintra Hills have restricted access until safety conditions are fully restored for welcoming visitors:

 

Park and National Palace of Pena

  • Reopening of the National Palace of Pena on Sunday, 30 March.
  • Partial reopening of the Park of Pena on 8 April. Some paths will remain restricted while cleaning operations are ongoing.

 

Moorish Castle

  • Open, as well as the Santa Maria trail and the Villa Sassetti trail.

 

Park and Palace of Monserrate

  • Reopening on Sunday, 30 March.
  • Some paths in the park will have restricted access.

 

Convent of the Capuchos

  • Closed

 

Chalet and Garden of the Countess of Edla

  • Reopening on 8 April.
  • Some paths in the surrounding garden will remain restricted while cleaning operations are ongoing.

 

Sanctuary of Peninha

  • Closed

 

 

The National Palace and Gardens of Queluz, the National Palace of Sintra and the facilities of the Portuguese School of Equestrian Art, in Belém, remain open as usual.

 

Information will be kept up to date on the official channels of Parques de Sintra, with daily assessments of safety conditions in the parks and monuments under its management.
