New guided tours of the Park of Pena reveal the secrets of a unique Romantic landscape

17 Sept 2026

For those wishing to explore the Park of Pena in greater depth, Parques de Sintra is launching a new programme of regular guided tours. The experience, led by a heritage guide with specialist expertise, invites visitors to discover the secrets of one of Sintra’s most distinctive Romantic landscapes, exploring places that reveal how King Ferdinand II, the Artist King, transformed this land into an extraordinary fusion of nature, architecture and art.

The experience begins at the Entrance of the Lakes, where visitors are welcomed and taken through the Park to the Riding Arena, the starting point for a tour that offers far more than a walk through a historic garden. It reveals the ideas, stories and choices behind the creation of a landscape of unparalleled historical and artistic significance.

Winding paths lined with tree species native to every continent, viewpoints, pavilions and small buildings reveal how Ferdinand II conceived the Park as a succession of settings, vistas and surprises that captivate the senses and take visitors on a journey through space and time.

The tour, which lasts approximately 90 minutes, takes in some of the Park of Pena’s most iconic sights, including the Temple of Columns, the Warrior Statue, the Queen’s Table, St Catherine’s Heights, the Queen’s Fern Valley, the Little Birds Fountain and the Valley of the Lakes.

Before or after the guided tour, participants are free to explore other corners of the 85-hectare Park of Pena, considered Portugal’s most important arboretum, including the Chalet of the Countess of Edla.

Tours take place on Mondays and Tuesdays at 10.30 am, in Portuguese and/or English. Tickets are available exclusively online from the Parques de Sintra website, priced at €20 for adults, €18 for seniors (over 65) and €10 for children and young people aged 6-17. A family ticket is also available for €55, valid for two adults and two children or young people.
