"Jazz at Monserrate" returns to Sintra in September

30 Apr 2023

Today, 30 April, Parques de Sintra celebrates International Jazz Day with the launch of the second edition of "Jazz at Monserrate." According to information released today on the event's new official website, www.jazzemmonserrate.pt, the festival will take place in the Park of Monserrate in Sintra between 8 and 17 September.

After the success of the first edition, expectations for the 2023 programme led a special announcement of this year's concerts. Thus, at 5 pm on Sunday 4 June, the full programme of "Jazz at Monserrate" will be presented to the press in the Music Room of the Palace of Monserrate.

For the general public, a programme has been prepared that celebrates the return of the event and which offers a preview of what will happen in September. From 5.30 pm on the day of the event, entry to the Park of Monserrate will be free. The Palace's terrace will host a free concert at 6 pm by the Kolme trio, composed of musicians Ruben Alves (piano), Miguel Amado (double bass) and Carlos Antunes (drums).

The trio, which has been performing for a decade and released three albums, will present compositions ranging from jazz to classical music, passing through drum n' bass. The result is a show marked by hypnotic atmospheres, contagious rhythms, and moments of introspection.

The first edition of "Jazz at Monserrate" was held between 15 and 18 September 2022 and provided the public with a journey through the various currents of contemporary Portuguese jazz. The programme featured artists such as Mário Laginha, Afonso Pais, André Fernandes and Tomás Marques, bringing together not only established names but also younger artists. The concerts constituted a distinctive cultural experience, taking advantage of the dialogue between music, heritage and nature, and bringing together more than a thousand spectators in total.

The excellent reception of the first edition demonstrated that this festival has filled a niche in the sense of combining the beauty of this heritage element with solid and high-quality programming. The event returns in 2023 with the same philosophy, but with a renewed ambition and image. Look out for more news on 4 June.

‘Jazz at Monserrate’ is promoted by Parques de Sintra, with the artistic concept by Clave na Mão.
