28/01/2026: Storm Kristin
The severe weather experienced during the passage of Storm Kristin across national territory on Wednesday, 28 January 2026, caused disruptions and restrictions in the Sintra Hills. All information regarding visiting conditions at the parks and monuments managed by Parques de Sintra will be kept updated here.
Update at 08.25 p.m. on 13/02/2026:
This Saturday, 14 February, the National Palace of Pena and the Palace of Monserrate will resume the public transport service, with pick-up points remaining at the usual locations.
The service will be operated with smaller buses, and adjustments may occur in capacity and turnaround times.
Regarding circulation in the Sintra Hills, access conditions for larger vehicles are under assessment, depending on the evolution of weather conditions and the daily verification of safety conditions.
The Convent of the Capuchos remains closed to the public until Civil Protection authorities consider that safety conditions have been met for reopening.
Information will be kept up to date on Parques de Sintra’s official channels, following a daily assessment of safety conditions across the various sites.

Access to the National Palace of Pena via the Pena Ramp is temporarily disrupted.
As an alternative, we suggest:

Largo de São Pedro (https://maps.app.goo.gl/uxv913x2NERWQi4q8): you may park here and reach the monument entrance via Calçada da Pena or the Santa Maria path.

Santa Eufémia car park (https://maps.app.goo.gl/ps2Ko859cK474c5F6): you may park here and access the Park and Palace via the pedestrian route linking the Santa Eufémia Chapel to Casa da Lapa.
Regarding the Park and Palace of Monserrate, due to safety restrictions on Estrada de Monserrate, visitors will continue to have access to the park on foot exclusively through the Galamares gate (location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/mWpmnL3hfYLCVvePA)
Attention: There is no parking for private vehicles at this entry point. We recommend planning your visit in advance.
The Convent pf the Capuchos remains closed to the public until the Civil Protection authorities consider that safety conditions for its reopening have been met

If you have purchased a ticket to visit the Park and National Palace of Pena, the Park and Palace of Monserrate, or the Convent of the Capuchos during the period of restrictions or closure, you can request a refund through the form below.
All fields must be completed. Otherwise, Parques de Sintra cannot guarantee the refund of the tickets.

The Park and Palace of Monserrate reopens to the public this Sunday, February 8th, after the passing of Storm Kristin.
However, due to safety restrictions on Estrada de Monserrate, visitors will only be able to access the park on foot through the Galamares gate (location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/mWpmnL3hfYLCVvePA)

Due to restrictions in the Sintra Hills, the National Palace of Pena and the Castle of the Moors will be closed this Saturday, 7 February.
The following sites will remain closed to the public until the Civil Protection authorities consider that safety conditions for their reopening have been met:
- Park and Palace of Monserrate
- Convent of the Capuchos
Visitors who have already purchased tickets for the closed monuments may use the same ticket to visit the National Palace of Sintra or the National Palace of Queluz during the closure period.
The following sites are open to the public: National Palace of Sintra, National Palace of Queluz, and the Portuguese School of Equestrian Art (Belém).

- Park and Palace of Monserrate
- Convent of the Capuchos
The National Palaces of Sintra and Queluz, as well as the Portuguese School of Equestrian Art in Belém, remain open. If you have already purchased a ticket for the closed monuments, you may use the same ticket to visit any of these sites during the closure period.
