Monuments on the Sintra Hills closed due to Very High Rural Fire Risk

The Government has decided to extend the State of Alertunder the same conditions, until next Tuesday, the 19th, due to the risk of wildfires. This means that the forest perimeter of the Sintra Hills will remain closed during this period.

While access to the Sintra Hills remains prohibited, the following monuments will remain closed:

 

  • Park and National Palace of Pena (closed on August 17, 18 and 19)
  • Moorish Castle (closed on August 17, 18 and 19)
  • Park and Palace of Monserrate (closed on August 17, 18 and 19)
  • Convent of the Capuchos (closed on August 17, 18 and 19)

If you have purchased tickets to visit these sites on the days of exceptional closure, you may request a refund by completing the form below.

All fields must be completed. Otherwise, Parques de Sintra cannot guarantee the refund of the tickets.

The National Palaces of Sintra and Queluz, as well as the facilities of the Portuguese School of Equestrian Art in Belém, remain open under their usual conditions.

While access to the Sintra Hills remains prohibited, the following monuments will remain closed:

 

  • Park and National Palace of Pena (closed on August 15, 16 and 17)
  • Moorish Castle (closed on August 15, 16 and 17)
  • Park and Palace of Monserrate (closed on August 15, 16 and 17)
  • Convent of the Capuchos (closed on August 15, 16 and 17)

The Government has decided to extend the State of Alert, under the same conditions, until next Friday, the 15th, due to the risk of wildfires. This means that the forest perimeter of the Sintra Hills will remain closed during this period.

While access to the Sintra Hills remains prohibited, the following monuments will remain closed:

 

  • Park and National Palace of Pena (closed on August 13, 14 and 15)
  • Moorish Castle (closed on August 13, 14 and 15)
  • Park and Palace of Monserrate (closed on August 13, 14 and 15)
  • Convent of the Capuchos (closed on August 13, 14 and 15)

UPDATE – 07/08/2025

The Portuguese Government decided this Thursday, during the Council of Ministers meeting, to extend the Alert Situation under the same terms until next Wednesday, the 13th, due to the risk of wildfires. This means that the forest perimeter of the Sintra Hills will remain closed during this period.


While access to the Sintra Hills remains prohibited, the following monuments will remain closed:

  • Park and National Palace of Pena (closed on August 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, and 13)
  • Moorish Castle (closed on August 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, and 13)
  • Park and Palace of Monserrate (closed on August 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, and 13)
  • Convent of the Capuchos (closed on August 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, and 13)

ORIGINAL ALERT - 02/08/2025

The extreme weather conditions and the resulting increase in the risk of forest fires in the region have led the relevant authorities to declare the closure of the Sintra Hills forest perimeter over the coming days, as a preventive safety measure.

 

While access to the Sintra Hills remains prohibited, the following sites will therefore remain closed:

 

  • Park and National Palace of Pena (closed on 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 August)
  • Moorish Castle (closed on 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 August)
  • Park and Palace of Monserrate (closed on 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 August)
  • Convent of the Capuchos (closed on 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 August)
