Parques de Sintra acquires new electric vehicles for natural heritage maintenance teams
30 Sept 2025
Parques de Sintra continues to implement its comprehensive fleet renewal project, which aims to replace hybrid vehicles with internal combustion engines with 100% electric alternatives. Recently, Parques de Sintra has acquired three new vehicles (two four-seaters and one two-seater) to provide logistical support for its natural heritage maintenance teams in their daily work. This strategic change reflects the company’s commitment to sustainability, innovation and the improvement of working conditions for its employees.
The new 100% electric vehicles are already in operation at the Gardens of the National Palace of Queluz, the Parks of Pena and Monserrate, and the Convent of the Capuchos. The management and upkeep of these sites require vehicles specifically designed to transport internal teams safely and comfortably to the various daily work sites; to carry the tools and equipment used in their tasks; and to move materials resulting from these activities (such as plant matter and other waste) to suitable processing areas. Given the nature of the spaces in which they will operate, these vehicles are designed to travel smoothly and safely along narrow internal routes (most of which are pedestrian pathways for visitors) and are equipped with engines and traction suitable for uneven and steep terrain.
Furthermore, as maintenance work in parks and gardens takes place alongside the enjoyment of these spaces by visitors, these vehicles are quiet, allowing daily operations to be carried out without compromising the quality of the visitor experience.
In line with national and international environmental goals that promote a more sustainable future, these vehicles contribute to reducing carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions, one of the main greenhouse gases, and boast high energy efficiency, which translates into economic benefits and a positive environmental impact.
