Parques de Sintra completes refurbishment of the ticket office and shop at the National Palace of Queluz

30 May 2025

The renovation project of the ticket office and shop at the National Palace of Queluz, carried out as part of the conservation and enhancement plan for this monument, has now been completed. The main aim of the intervention was to personalise these visitor reception areas and to give them a new identity, aligned with the principal architectural features of the building complex in which they are located.

In harmony with the Palace’s architecture, particularly its façades, a restrained colour palette of bluish-grey and limestone cream was chosen. This creates a visual link across all the spaces visitors move through and reinforces the monument’s distinctive character. The materials selected followed the same design rationale.

The refurbishment work, which began in December last year, included the conservation and maintenance of key elements essential to preserving the overall heritage value of the building, including its external window frames. In order to fully respect the architectural language and style of the monument, new materials were carefully matched to those already in place, in line with the philosophy underpinning all interventions by Parques de Sintra. Functionally, the shop’s internal layout was reorganised to improve space optimisation and to ensure a more fluid visitor flow between the different areas.
