End of Europe Race leads to road closures and traffic restrictions in Sintra

14 Jan 2026

On Sunday, 25 January, Sintra will host the 35th edition of the End of Europe Race, an emblematic athletics event organised by Sintra Municipal Council. The race, with a total distance of 17 km, starts in the town of Sintra, next to the Moorish Fountain, at 10:00 a.m., and finishes near the Cabo da Roca Lighthouse. It will entail road closures and traffic restrictions affecting access to the parks and monuments managed by Parques de Sintra, with the exception of the National Palace of Queluz.

On this date, visitors wishing to travel to the National Palace of Sintra, the Park and National Palace of Pena, the Chalet of the Countess of Edla, the Moorish Castle, the Park and Palace of Monserrate or the Convent of the Capuchos should take into account the following road closures and traffic restrictions:

- Road closure on Volta do Duche, from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

- Road closure on the access to the National Palace of Sintra, from 09:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.

- Road closure on the Pena road, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

- Traffic restrictions on National Road N-247, between 10:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.

- Road closure on the access to Cape Roca, from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Renowned for its outstanding beauty and demanding course, the End of Europe Race attracts national and international athletes to Sintra. This year’s edition already has more than 2,400 registered participants from 47 countries.
