The gardens of the Palace of Monserrate, over the first four weekends of July, are hosting the “Splendor in the Grass” cinema cycle, with its program containing twelve masterpieces from this history of cinema, many of them purpose shown at night and in the open air in order to convey a unique experience to visitors. This is a Parques de Sintra initiative with programming by the cineaste João Mário Grilo.
At night, on a gigantic screen, a unique scenario in an authentic natural amphitheatre, with its lawns for the seating, complemented by an architectonic framework that is equally unique in Portugal and that certainly adds new dimensions to the concept of “going to the cinema”: the film program seeks to convey a significant panorama over both the diverse identity of cinema and the very best this form has conveyed to us down the years.
