National Palace of Pena
The proposed visit leads to the discovery of the National Palace of Pena, created by King Ferdinand II in the 19th century. Built on the ruins of a 16th century monastery dedicated to Nossa Senhora da Pena, the Palace stands in the Sintra Hills as an essential landmark of Romanticism in Portugal, in a mixture of styles that represent different eras and cultures. This eclectic taste is also reflected in its acquis and artistic collections, that show the experiences of the generations of King Ferdinand II and his grandson, King Carlos I.
