The Donkey Reserve at Ferdinand II’s Hunting Ground, next to the Convent of the Capuchos, aims to contribute to the maintenance and appreciation of the donkey through a programme of activities that teach us about this species, raising awareness of the importance of its conservation and offering the public the opportunity to come into contact with these friendly beasts, as well as exploring the natural heritage surrounding the reserve. This project is the result of a partnership between Parques de Sintra and the Donkey Reserve – Association of Donkey Appreciation and Preservation (Reserva de Burros – Associação para a Valorização e Preservação do Burro).
The activities are dependent on weather conditions. For the activities that include donkey rides, please wear comfortable footwear (preferably closed), clothing suited to the weather conditions (no skirts), and bring a hat, sun protection, water and a snack (there is no cafeteria). Children should also wear a bicycle helmet or riding hat (supplied by the sanctuary or brought from home).
