Christmas arrives at the National Palace of Sintra on 1 December with a concert by the Lisbon Youth Choir to commemorate the inauguration of the Parques de Sintra Christmas tree, which shall remain on display until 6 January 2018 in Rainha Dona Amélia Square.
Under direction of the São Carlos National Theatre maestro co-répétiteur, Nuno Margarido Lopes, the Lisbon Youth Choir is performing some of the world’s best known Christmas songs on the first of December from 6pm to 7pm on the entrance staircase of the National Palace of Sintra. “Last Christmas”, “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” or the ever popular “Jingle Bells” feature in the repertoire of this choral group (composed of young persons aged from 8 to 25) which thus marks the Christmas season beginning at Parques de Sintra.
Decorated with around 200 red and white 3D baubles, the Christmas tree stands 15 metres tall and has an interior passageway, which is accessible for a festive photograph opportunity. The tree may be visited throughout the month of December and through to Three Kings Day in Rainha Dona Amélia Square that is also hosting the Christmas Market, organised by Sintra Municipal Council, from 1 to 23 December, from 10am to 6pm.
