14th of August, 6:30pm | Bats in Sintra – Maria João Pereira (Palace of Monserrate Auditorium)
Inhabitants of the sublime environment of Sintra and source of inspiration for many myths and superstitions: bats are often misunderstood. They are an important piece of the great puzzle that is the ecosystem and we could probably not live without the invaluable role that they provide in the environment. However, their role is played discretely and in the dead of night. Come and meet the diverse species of bats that exist in the world and, in particular reference to those that live in Sintra, where and how they live. Maria João Pereira, a teacher who has long surrendered her heart and soul to the mystery of these creatures, leads a captivating lecture that will bring along a magic wand for locating them: an ultrasonic detector that will give us an insight as to who is hovering over us during the blackness of night.
Come to the Park of Monserrate to meet Charles Darwin and accompany the curious scientist on a journey of discovery of the evolutionary theories of the 19th century through a visit to a mock-pedagogical session staged and produced by 'teatromosca'.
